Tires and Wheels

For better traction and acceleration, the Q4 e-tron has larger rear tires than the ID.4 (255/50R19 vs. 235/55R19).

The Q4 e-tron’s standard 255/50R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the ID.4 Standard’s standard 55 series tires.

Suspension and Handling

The Q4 e-tron has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The ID.4’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

The Q4 e-tron has .1 inches more front legroom and .4 inches more rear headroom than the ID.4.

Ergonomics

Consumer Reports rated the Q4 e-tron’s headlight performance “Very Good,” a higher rating than the ID.4’s headlights, which were rated “Good.”

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Q4 e-tron Prestige has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The ID.4 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Q4 e-tron has standard extendable sun visors. The ID.4 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The Q4 e-tron’s optional rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The ID.4 has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

Recommendations

Consumer Reports® recommends the Audi Q4 e-tron, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Volkswagen ID.4 isn't recommended.
